Maria, the Master Weaver

Weaving is a big thing that most ladies in Union Victoria do! And Maria is a master at it! While we were there, she finished the shirt for Paulina. Notice that the weaving loom attaches to the kitchen roof and to her waist. Also, notice that she is meticulously weaving the designs in as she goes. Paulina is holding up the nearly finished product... still needs the neck cut out and to be sewn up.

Then Maria started a shoulder bag... first she used a jig to get the base set up. She will be making three of these bags for me. She asked for 75 Q a peice... which is about $10.50.

Also, notice in the family picture... the top she has on is one that she weaved herself.

The little block building behind her in the pic with the jig is an outside sauna bath... they build a roaring fire in it for several hours and that heats the blocks then they extinguish the fire and
douse the blocks with water and crawl in for a steam bath.
