Guatemala Day 6 May 13...

Still no water... wash cloth baths are the best we can do. Sure am glad I shaved my head before I went. Had breakfast of two eggs scrambled with a hotdog like sausage and coffee... ate with fingers.

After a littl break and carrying several big containers of water up from a house down the street and hill, we all loaded into a taxi -- 8 of us plus the driver in a toyota corrolla wagon. The driver took us to the market so that Dad could buy chicken dinners to take with us to a park on the top of a mountain where we would meet the rest of the family to have some fun together. The park had a great view of Xela and a couple swings and some slides. One of the slides was made of cement and was 4 slides wide. All of us had lots of fun sliding down that long hill. Such simple things for them can be fun.... this was the first time in 4 years that they had been there... not since Dad was last there with them.

While we were playing, the family hired a lady from the church to do their laundry at a house up on the hill that had water. They paid 50 Quatzales (just a little more than $7) for the lady and 15 Q for the water (just a little more than $2).

Around 2:30 we left the park and took 2 taxis home. All kids plus Miriam and Carolina's mother took one taxi while Dad, Carolina, Jose, Ahora, and me took a taxi to go get some photos developed.... they didn't have the adapter that was needed at the first place, so we jumped a van/bus across town to a LARGE mall....made me think I was back in Salisbury... though the mall was almost empty and armed gaurds were everywhere. Got the photos developed and got a van/bus to the big bus station and them went home. We talked/ played long into the night before walking the farm family to the taxi station to get a ride home. Supper was two sandwiches which were two peices of sweet white bread and 1 peice of bologna -- no cheese and no mayo or dressing.

Went to be around 8.
