A Thought on this Maundy Thursday...

Today is the day we commemorate Jesus' last supper with his disciples as recorded in John 13.  Tonight at Community of Joy we will share in a worship gathering that we call Love Feast.  It will include a simple meal eaten together around tables, an opportunity to wash one another's feet/hands, and communion.

The thought I have been stirring for tonight is this... Jesus knew that Judas would betray him, he knew that Peter would deny him, and he knew that the other disciples would desert him, yet he still washed their feet and later he said, I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other."

Wow!
