The discussion Tuesday and Wednesday on the street preacher's and the church's methods of sharing God's love has got a few of us thinking. How can we actively share the love of Christ with others without pushing them away or turning them off? How can we get past the baggage that so many carry because of past experiences with overly zealous christians who have made them a project - notch on the bible rather than a person to be loved?
I am short on answers, but I think it is all about relationships and valuing people. I think it begins with having the same kind of non-judgemental love that Jesus has. It also includes meeting people right where they are even in the midst of the mess. And it includes being honest with the mess that's in our lives as well! And it takes lots of time... and is kinda like a dance step... two steps forward, one back, three forward, etc.
Here is an interesting concept... that began with a bunch of churches going to the Mayor of their community and asking what the best way they could help serve the city. The Mayor's response got the ball rolling on an initiative that I think is a great way to start the process of doing what Jesus tells us is the second most important thing to do... Love our Neighbors.
